David Whaley, corporate secretary to Norwich University President Mark Anarumo, has announced his intention to retire on June 30, after 41 years of service to the school.
A 1976 graduate of Norwich, Whaley began his career at his alma mater in 1981, as director of alumni affairs. He went on to serve in the roles of alumni director, director of planned giving and executive vice president before assuming his current responsibilities.
During his tenure as alumni director, Whaley conceptualized and introduced to Norwich the idea of creating a transcendent university, whose impact has been felt across generational, ethnic and cultural divides. Later, as Norwich’s director of planned giving, Whaley used his interpersonal prowess to engage and cultivate the planned giving of Norwich graduates the world over.
When he took over the reins of what was then called institutional advancement at the dawn of the new millennium, Whaley created an infrastructure that would forever reimagine fundraising at Norwich. Over time, he also curated a strong and diverse development team capable of tackling everything from prospect research to donor recognition.
Norwich will host a celebratory gathering in honor of Whaley's four decades of service on Saturday, June 3, at Plumley Armory on Norwich University’s Northfield campus. The event is open to all. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit https://alumni.norwich.edu/DWhaleyRetirement.
