Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes elected six new members to its board of directors in 2021 and 2022. Directors shape the path forward for the museum. Beyond assuming fiduciary responsibility, they are instrumental in the overall governance of the organization.
New members are:
- Catherine Parker, assistant director of young alumni giving, Boston College — A resident of Vergennes, Parker worked as a camp counselor at Basin Harbor during summers in high school. She holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and educational studies from St Lawrence University.
- Don Stevens, chief, Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk-Abenaki Nation. An award-winning leader, businessman, writer and lecturer, Stevens is a former two-term member of the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs, where he led the fight to obtain legal recognition for the Abenaki People in Vermont. He serves on the Racial Disparities in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems Advisory Panel, the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Advisory Panel and the Vermont State Police Fairness and Diversity Advisory Panel.
- Hannah Langsdale, owner, Whistling Man Schooner Company, Burlington — A graduate of St Lawrence University, Langsdale is an accomplished sailor and earned her captain's license in 2017. She was recognized in 2019 as a Vermont Business Magazine Rising Star for her leadership and commitment to the future of Vermont.
- Adam Powers, attorney and mediator, Powers & Powers, Addison County; hearing officer, State of Vermont — Powers spent his childhood exploring Lake Champlain through sailing and diving, has restored a number of sailboats and served as director of the Seacoast Sailing School in New Hampshire for two seasons.
- Stacy Raphael, educator, Addison Wayfinder Experience school — Before she began her formal teaching career, Raphael directed school programs and partnerships at the Flynn Center in Burlington and ran grant-making and education programming for the Vermont Arts Council in Montpelier. She holds a master’s degree in education from Goddard College.
- Edward Schinik, chief financial officer, Yorkville Advisors Global, Mountainside, NJ — Schinik is a certified public accountant with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Queens College, City University of New York. He was a founding member and treasurer of HAPI Foundation, a children’s charity, from 2002-2011.
