Humane Society of Chittenden County selects Tom Ayres as new President & CEO

It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Chittenden County announces the selection of Tom Ayres of Burlington to become its first President & CEO. Tom will assume the leadership position of HSCC on Monday, April 25th.

Tom possesses a 30-year track record as a non-profit administrator in Vermont’s healthcare, human services, and arts sectors. Tom recently served as the executive director for the Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in St. Albans, guiding the day-to-day operations, programs, administration, and fund development activities. He has also served as marketing director at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and communications director for the United Way of Chittenden County.

Renee Reiner, Chair of the HSCC’s Board of Directors stated, “The process to find our new leader was incredibly thorough. Tom is a superb fit for our organization and its culture, and will lead HSCC extremely well to our next level.”

Tom lives in Burlington with his wife, Anne Barrett, a web designer, cartoonist, and animated filmmaker. Tom will be introduced to -- and meet with -- the community at HSCC’s Annual Celebration, Thursday, April 28th. The Event will be held at the HSCC’s state-of-the-art facility at 142 Kindness Court in South Burlington, beginning at 6:00 pm.

Founded in 1901, the Humane Society of Chittenden County is an independent, private, nonprofit, animal welfare and human services organization. The HSCC serves Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties and each year welcomes 750 -1,000 animals, and some 15,000 people, to its Animal Care and Adoption facility on Kindness Court in South Burlington, Vermont. The HSCC receives no state or federal funding and carries out its mission of fostering compassionate treatment of animals and preventing animal suffering exclusively through program revenue and the generosity of individual and corporate donors.
