Casella Waste Systems announced that the company’s president and chief operating officer, Edwin Johnson, will retire on June 30, and that Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Edmond “Ned” Coletta will assume the role of president and chief financial officer, effective July 1. Johnson plans to stay on in an advisory capacity for the remainder of 2022 to ensure a seamless transition.
Also, on July 1, the company plans to promote Sean Steves, its current senior vice president of operations, to senior vice president and chief operating officer of solid waste operations, and Jason Mead, vice president of finance, to senior vice president of finance and treasurer.
“These exciting leadership changes follow a multiyear succession-planning process,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Casella. “The board of directors and management have worked hard to identify and build the next generation of leaders throughout the organization to ensure continuity, and more importantly to maintain and build upon our culture and core values.”
Coletta joined Casella Waste Systems in 2004 and has served in his current role since December 2012. He is a graduate of Brown University and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Steves joined the company in 2018 as vice president of operational initiatives and has served in his current position since 2019. He holds a bachelor's degree in sustainable management from DePaul University.
Mead joined Coletta Waste in 2010 and has served as VP of finance since February 2021. He is a business administration graduate of the University of Vermont.
