The Vermont and the New Hampshire Valley Region of the American Red Cross announces the appointment of Michael Sullivan to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer.

Natalie Hubbs, of Stowe, and Harriet Grenier, of Waterbury, were recently elected Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, of the Central Vermont Friends of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. The appointments are effective January 1, 2010.

Gov. Jim Douglas appointed Thomas N. Pelletier of Montpelier to be chairman of the Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Board of Commissioners. The change took effect upon the Governor's appointment Tuesday.

Daniel M. Fogel, president of the University of Vermont, today assumed the board chairmanship of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities during the public research university association’s 122nd Annual Meeting. Fogel assumes the leadership role from Lee T. Todd, Jr., president of the University of Kentucky.

NBT Bank Regional President Matt Durkee announced that Dan Johnson has been hired as vice president and regional manager. In this position, Johnson is responsible for developing and overseeing the bank’s branches in Vermont. He is based at the bank’s regional office at 150 Bank Street in Burlington. Later this year, the bank plans to open its first Vermont branch at the same location.

The Vermont Natural Resources Council has announced the promotion of Kim Greenwood to the position of Water Program Co-Director.

Greenwood has served as VNRC’s staff scientist for four years. Before coming to VNRC she spent six years at the Agency of Natural Resources as a Water Quality Engineer.

Commerce Generation, Inc., the Burlington Vermont developer of website e-commerce solutions, announces the addition of two new employees.

Ryan Coughlin has been hired as Web Developer. Coughlin will graduate from Champlain College in 2010, with a major in Website Development and Design. Mr. Coughlin will be responsible for front-end web design and development.

The Insurance and Litigation groups at Paul Frank + Collins have hired David M. Kennedy as an associate lawyer. Kennedy has five years of experience and was previously an associate at Duane Morris in San Francisco. His practice focuses on insurance and business litigation. He is licensed to practice law in California.

Craig Abrahams, National Sales Manager at BioTek Instruments, Inc., will expand his responsibilities to include BioTek's sales and distribution efforts in Canada.

Scholar, editor, literary critic, researcher, historian, and author Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., will speak on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Bennington Center for the Arts as part of Southern Vermont College’s 2009-2010 From Inspiration to Innovation lecture series.
