Karen Glass, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ Vermont Campus, has been awarded a three-year research grant totaling $353,400 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Glass will seek to identify new ways to prevent and treat a type of leukemia called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity has announced their team at Vermont’s first Habitat for Humanity ReStore located in Williston. Since opening the store in September 2012, their dedicated staff and volunteers have collected used (and some new) building materials, appliances, furniture, and home goods to resell to the public.

Burlington College Board Chair Adam Dantzscher announced the appointment of three business leaders to the College’s Board of Trustees. The new trustees are Yves Bradley, Vice President of Commercial Brokerage at Pomerleau Real Estate; Tom Torti, President of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce; and Megan Smith, Commissioner of Tourism and Marketing for the State of Vermont.

The Champlain Housing Trust presented four community leaders with awards at its annual meeting Saturday night with more than 150 attending. Attendees also elected members of the Board of Directors, and six staff were recognized for their ten years of work at the organization.

The Vermont Arts Council and Marlboro College Graduate School are proud to announce its second group of fellows in the Nonprofit Arts Management Training scholarship program. This partnership between the Council and Marlboro College began in 2012 and supports nonprofit management education for Vermont artists and art managers by awarding up to four $500 scholarships each trimester.

McKnight and Scharf announced the creation of a joint venture emphasizing employment law assistance to employers. The new entity will do business on Webster Road, in Shelburne, Vermont, where both maintain private law practices.

Norwich University’s Career Development Center recently welcomed Jim Graves as the university’s Internship Coordinator. Graves is responsible for assisting employers in developing internship programs and for helping Norwich students secure internship positions.

Prof. Robert A. Oden, Jr. PhD, former president of Carleton College and Kenyon College, has been named Chair of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Board of Trustees. Oden, a member of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock board since January 2011, succeeded Wayne Granquist as chair on December 31, 2012.
