Steve and Deb Mayfield, owners of the Shelburne Country Store, today announced the acquisition of The Christmas Loft located in Shelburne.

Andrew Hoak, PE, PG, has joined DuBois & King as a Manager of the firm’s Water Resources Department. Mr. Hoak is a hydrogeologist and an environmental engineer with 20 years of experience consulting on water quality, stormwater management, water and wastewater studies, and groundwater and soil remediation projects. US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has announced the 51st class of US Presidential Scholars, recognizing 141 high school seniors for their accomplishments in academics or the arts.

Press Forward PR announced the hire of Kathryn Flagg to the position of Sustainable Accounts Manager today. Flagg, a staff writer at the Vermont weekly Seven Days, will oversee press outreach and communication for Shacksbury Cider, a Shoreham, Vermont-based producer of dry, food-friendly ciders made with heirloom apples and traditional processes.

Dr. Andrew Erickson has joined Gifford Medical Center, adding a fourth provider to the hospital’s general surgery team. He most recently worked as a surgeon at a Mid Valley Hospital, a rural community hospital in Omak, Washington; and as a general and acute care surgeon at the Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.

Michael Chilton, a senior microbiology major, and Colin Kamphuis, a sophomore political science and economics double-major, have been awarded prestigious Boren Scholarships. The David L. Boren Scholarship is a nationally competitive award that provides up to $20,000 for students to study a critical foreign language in a nontraditional country important to U.S. national security.

The Fourteenth Annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards and the third annual Licensed Nursing Assistant Excellence Awards were recently presented to five University of Vermont Health Network-Central Vermont Medical Center nurses and licensed nursing assistants who exemplify the best aspects of nursing practice and consistently demonstrate excellent nursing care.

After an extensive search committee process, Bobbe Maynes, the President of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPS) announced that Sarah Lemnah, of St. Albans, was named the first Executive Director. CPS has been providing services and support to cancer patients and their families in Vermont and northern New York for over 14 years.

Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC) has announced that Dr. Peter E. Rauert recently earned his board certification in Pain Management from the American Board of Anesthesiology. This certification signifies that Dr. Rauert has achieved the highest level of intensive study and assessment as a pain management specialist.

John Snell was recently honored by the Rotary Club of Montpelier with the Capital Award as Citizen of the Year.
