Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson has appointed two new Commissioners to Vermont Commission on Women: Marybeth Christie Redmond of Essex and Emilie Kornheiser of Brattleboro. Marybeth Christie Redmond’s work and career have focused on utilizing writing and public communications to raise up the voices of women, girls, and the most marginalized residing in our state.

United Counseling Service welcomes Laurie Teal, APRN, as the newest member of the Psychiatric Medical Team (PMT). The PMT supports all Divisions of UCS by providing medical treatments for psychiatric conditions and ensuring clinical standards of services are being maintained. The team also provides psychiatric consultation to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC).

Green Mountain Power President and CEO Mary Powell was again named among the top 25 Most Influential Women of the Mid-Market by CEO Connection in 2017. This list recognizes the top 25 women in the US based on their ability to influence change, innovation, and standards for excellence in companies with annual sales between $100 million and $3 billion.

The Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce will present the 2017 Tim Bovat Civic Involvement Award to 14th Star Brewing Founders Steve Gagner and Matt Kehaya, and CEO Andrea Gagner. The presentation will be made during the Tim’s House Annual Golf Classic on Friday, August 18th at the Champlain Country Club, following lunch at approximately 2:00 pm.

On Monday, July 10th Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos was chosen by a bi-partisan group of his peers as President-elect of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) at the Summer Conference in Indianapolis.

Centers for Living and Rehabilitation (CLR), a part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), has graduated four new licensed nursing assistants (LNAs). Holly Buckley, Brian Cody, Laura Lampman, and Kourtnie Lamson finished the 3-week, 120-hour course on June 6 and passed their LNA examination on June 26. All four graduates previously worked at CLR in the role of care assistant.

Vermont State Senator Christopher Bray has been invited to participate in this year’s program at the Center for the New Energy Economy (CNEE). Founded in 2011 as a department of Colorado State University, located in Denver, CNEE is a privately-funded initiative led by Colorado’s 41st Governor, Bill Ritter, Jr and assisted by a team of energy and environmental policy experts.

The Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR), an association of in-house physician recruitment professionals, has announced that Sarah Child, Manager of Physician Services, at University of Vermont Health Network, Central Vermont Medical Center has earned the FASPR credential.

Vermont Federal Credit Union (VFCU) is excited to provide four, $2,000 scholarships in 2017. Scholarships were awarded to graduating high school seniors, Trevor Houchens and Matthew Stanley, as well as Kyle Ehler-Vock and Kathryn Gates who are currently enrolled in higher education. Trevor Houchens graduated in June from South Burlington High School.

Mobius is excited to announce the addition of Sarah Caliendo to its statewide Board of Directors. Caliendo brings a passion for supporting young people and seven years of experience in the youth mentoring field to the Mobius Board. “When I started my journey at DREAM I had no previous experience with mentoring, and wasn't sure how effective it could be,” said Caliendo.

Okemo Mountain Resort Ski + Ride School Supervisor and Instructor Katie Brinton was named one of Ski Area Management’s "10 Under 30" in the July 2017 issue of the magazine. Brinton, age 27, of Water Mill, NY, made her first turns on snow as a Ski-Wee at Okemo. She is now a PSIA Alpine Level III certified instructor and trainer. “I grew up skiing there [Okemo Mountain Resort],” Brinton said.

The sixteen appointed members of the Vermont Commission on Women (VCW) have re-elected Marcia Merrill of Jericho to serve a 5th term as Chair. Ms Merrill has served in this leadership role since 2006.
