Vermont students select Red Clover, Golden Dome, and Green Mountain Book Award winners

Vermont Business Magazine On June 5, 2026, the Vermont Department of Libraries announced the recipients of the 2025–2026 Vermont Youth Book Awards. A total of 17,437 Vermont students voted to select the winners from a curated list of books published in 2024.

Whalesong: The True Story of the Musician Who Talked to Orcas by Zachariah Ohora won the Red Clover Book Award, chosen by students in grades K-4; Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell, illustrated by Ashley Mackenzie, won the Vermont Golden Dome Book Award, picked by students in grades 4-8; and Not Like Other Girls by Meredith Adamo won the Green Mountain Book Award, selected by high school students.

The three readers’ choice book awards are presented annually to authors of books for children and teens. The process begins when award committee members apply their literary expertise to curate lists of noteworthy titles. Students read from these lists and vote for their favorites. The Vermont Department of Libraries provides administrative support for the awards, including facilitating statewide student voting.

The Vermont Youth Book Awards promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and develop critical thinking skills. Generations of Vermont youth have taken part in this student-centered tradition.

The Vermont Department of Libraries is housed within the Vermont Agency of Administration and supports Vermont libraries as they work to ensure access to quality information for their patrons. The Department supports the work of the Vermont youth book award committees. Department of Libraries programs are funded, in part, by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' Grants to States Program. To learn more, visit libraries.vermont.gov.
