Vermont Business Magazine Today, Democrat Becca Balint officially launched her reelection campaign seeking a third term as Vermont’s Representative in the U.S. House, pledging to continue fighting for working families, protecting fundamental freedoms, and lowering costs.
After filing candidacy paperwork and submitting signatures at the Vermont Secretary of State’s office, Balint spoke before supporters in Montpelier, highlighting her work in Congress to address the affordability crisis, defend reproductive and voting rights, stand up to corporate influence and corruption, protect Social Security and Medicare, strengthen rural healthcare, and address Vermont’s housing crisis.
Excerpts from her remarks are below:
“Today, I’m proud to announce that I’m running for re-election to the United States House of Representatives. It is the honor of my life to serve as Vermont’s lone House member in Congress. Every single day, I carry the stories, the struggles, and the hopes of Vermonters with me to Washington.
I ran for this office to serve Vermonters. Because I believe that the government must work for the people. Not for corporations. Not for the wealthy and well-connected. But for working families, for seniors, for veterans, for young people trying to build a future, and for every Vermonter who just wants a fair shot.”
“These are not easy times. Vermonters are worried. They tell me that the federal government has lost its way.
They’re deeply concerned about the attacks on our fundamental freedoms. They don’t want our reproductive rights or voting rights threatened by a government abusing its power.
Vermonters hate watching powerful corporations and the ultra wealthy rig the system for their benefit while working people are left behind. I hear it from Vermonters in every corner of this state. They are frustrated and angry that they work so hard and can’t seem to get ahead. They’re disgusted that the billionaires are doing just fine while the rest of us struggle to pay for gas, groceries and healthcare.”
“As Vermonters, we show up. We organize. We take care of each other. And we fight for what’s right—even when it’s hard. We always punch above our weight.
That’s exactly what I’ve tried to do in Congress.
I’ve worked to lower costs for families at home, at the pump, at the grocery store, and at the pharmacy.
I’ve pushed to protect our environment and invest in climate solutions that support our rural communities.
I’ve stood up for workers’ rights, because everyone deserves dignity on the job and a paycheck they can live on.”
“I’ve taken the fight for our Constitutional rights directly to Trump’s cabinet members in hearings. I went toe to toe with Pam Bondi and she’s gone. And I grilled Kristi Noem and now she’d gone, too. I bring that fighting spirit into all my committee hearings and onto the floor of the House. I may be small but I make my voice heard. Because my voice is your voice.”
“This campaign is about continuing that work—with courage, with kindness, with decency and integrity, and with a deep belief in what’s possible when we come together.
My name is on the ballot, but this has always been a movement of Vermonters. It’s about all of us, bringing together our grit and compassion.”
“So today, I’m asking for your support.
Not just your vote—but your voice, your time, your energy. Because like our country, this campaign belongs to all of us.
This great nation is of the People, by the People, and for the People.
All the work we’ll do, we’ll do together.
I would be honored to have your support.”
