Vermont Business Magazine The Friends of the Fletcher Free Library was awarded an FY2026 Cultural Facilities Grant to support audio-visual equipment to improve arts experiences at the Library. The newly installed screen, sound bar, and sound proofing panels will improve the quality of programs in the Fletcher Room at the Main Library at 235 College Street. In addition, a hybrid telecommunications screen will increase programming opportunities and accessibility at the New North End Branch at 1127 North Avenue.
“We’re grateful to the Vermont Arts Council and the State of Vermont for helping make this upgrade possible,” said Library Director Mary Danko. “At Fletcher Free Library, we believe that freedom of speech is strengthened when communities have open, welcoming spaces to share ideas and hear diverse perspectives. Our programs—from film series and author talks to art receptions and community conversations—are built on that foundation. This new audio-visual equipment in the Fletcher Room allows us to better support those voices and ensure our space reflects the quality, accessibility, and openness of the programs we offer. We invite the public to come experience it and be part of the conversation.”
The two meeting rooms on the third floor of the Main Library now have modern audio-visual equipment and improved sound quality for library programs. Organizations reserving the meeting rooms for public use also have access to the equipment and improvements. This project, supported in part by the Vermont Arts Council, which receives support from the State of Vermont, the National Endowment for the Arts, and generous private donors, establishes equal technology in the two main library meeting rooms. An FY2023 Cultural Facilities Grant funded similar efforts to the Pickering Room at the Library.
