Interstates:
Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., crews will widen the roadway, install light pole foundations and conduit, and interconnect along U.S. 2/7 and the I-89 ramps at the Exit 16 interchange. Throughout the week, intermittent single-lane closures will be in effect along U.S. 2/7 in either direction between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, and there will be width reductions along the I-89 ramps. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – During daytime hours, crews will install plug joints on the U.S. 2 bridge and line striping on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 within the project limits. Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 will have intermittent lane closures with traffic shifted as needed.
Newbury-Ryegate, I-91 Paving – Milling operations will begin on I-91 North between Exits 16 and 17. Temporary single-lane closures will be in place, progressing north and shifting between the high- and low-speed lanes as work progresses. A speed limit of 55 mph is in place. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – Work continues on I-89 North and South near Exit 3. There will be daily high-speed lane closures on I-89 South. A permanent high-speed lane closure on I-89 North with temporary concrete barriers is in place, and northbound traffic will be restricted to the low-speed lane. The travel width on I-89 North is reduced to 15 feet across the bridge; wide loads should seek alternate routes. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. Traffic on VT 107 may be diverted; the speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph, and there is a 14-foot height restriction.
Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving – Work resumes on I-89 North and South between Exit 20 and 22 to complete various punch list tasks. Temporary single-lane closures will be in place at various locations. A speed limit of 55 mph will be in place.
State Highways:
Barre-East Montpelier, VT 14 Resurfacing – The contractor is beginning to mobilize for this paving project on VT 14. Crews are accessing the shoulders throughout the project limits and on all approach routes and intersections. Motorists should be aware of personnel and equipment in the area.
Barre Town, Railroad Crossing Improvement – A railroad crossing improvement project continues on Quarry Hill Road between just north of Fisher Road and just south of Cherrywood Road. Quarry Hill Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should expect delays.
Bennington, Bridge 6 Replacement (VT 9/Main Street) – The bridge is closed between Morgan Street and Beech Street for replacement from April 13 through early June, with a signed detour in place. Morgan Street and Beech Street are closed at VT 9 through April 27, with no access to the main roadway. The Buck Stop Mini-Mart, gas station, and TenneyBrook Car Wash remain accessible via Beech Street.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Crews will construct the splitter islands for the roundabout and work on the sediment basin. College Drive and Matteson Road (Rice Ln) remain fully close at VT 67A through June, with traffic maintained via detour routes. Roadway signs direct drivers to continue southbound on VT 67A, onto VT 279 eastbound, onto U.S. 7 northbound and exit at Exit 2 in Bennington. Drivers then turn onto VT 7A southbound, onto Rice Lane, onto Matteson Road. To reach College Drive, drivers continue north on Matteson Road onto Harlan Road onto Jennings Drive and back onto College Drive.
Bennington, VT 67A & VT 7A Signals – Crews are will be working at the intersection of VT-7A and Northside Drive on Tuesday 4/21 or Wednesday 4/22 to remove and replace a stop bar heading west along VT-7A from US-7, moving it back 20 feet for allowing easy observance of the traffic signal. Site cleanup is intended to occur around these days as well with limited occupation of the roadway. Motorists will encounter a lane closure with a uniformed traffic officer while work is underway.
Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A paving project is beginning on U.S. 5 with milling anticipated to start on Wednesday. Between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., a single-lane closure will be in place for 1.5 miles beginning at the I-91 overpass in Brattleboro. Alternating traffic patterns will be controlled by flaggers. This work zone will begin in the northbound lane and then alternate to the southbound lane when work is complete before progressing north. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces, and all motorists should expect delays.
Elmore, Bridge #90 Replacement – Construction of the temporary roadway and bridge is in effect. On VT 12, concrete barriers and a temporary traffic signal will be in place near the bridge for an ongoing lane closure.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through summer 2026. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Milton, U.S. Route 7 Intersection Reconfiguration – Construction activities are scheduled to begin on Monday 4/20. Initial work will include signage installation and erosion control, with most work occurring outside the roadway. There will be minimal traffic impacts, though crews and equipment may be present near the roadway and law enforcement will be on-site for worker safety.
Poultney, Bridge #4 Rehabilitation – Construction activities include installation of steel for shoring the existing bridge and possible excavation at the south abutment. Traffic has been shifted to the one-lane temporary bridge, which is open to truck traffic. Traffic is controlled by temporary signals, with flaggers used as needed. Motorists should proceed with caution through the work zone.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will pour concrete for the lower portion of Abutment 1 (Phelps Lane). Crews will then begin installing formwork and reinforcing steel for the subfooting at Abutment 2. Work on the cofferdam for the pier foundation also continues, and flaggers will be present periodically throughout the week.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – During daytime hours, crews will install drainage at the intersection of VT 2A at Industrial Avenue and Mountain View Drive, widen the roadway and install underdrain along the west side of VT 2A between the intersection and Sharon Drive, and install sewer along Hillside Drive. Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the signalized intersection will be controlled by flaggers and Industrial Avenue will be restricted to one-way alternating traffic early in the week, followed by VT 2A being reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic. Weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Hillside Drive will be restricted to one-way alternating and the southbound right-turn lane from VT 2A onto Industrial Avenue will be closed.
Wolcott, Bridge #6 Replacement – Bridge #6 on School Street is closed to all traffic for the bridge replacement project. A signed detour is in place to guide motorists to access School Street via Flat Iron Road and VT 15. Motorists can expect intermittent alternating one-way traffic.
