Vermont Business Magazine From the inside of an iconic former furniture factory in Wolcott comes a new addition to the craft food and beverage landscape: non-alcoholic beverages infused with microdose amounts of Vermont hemp-derived THC and CBD.
The novel debuts come courtesy of Clean International Inc., a family-owned beverage startup launched by a group of Lamoille County locals seeking to diversify and improve the cannabis landscape by creating premium and ultra-premium category beverages.
The first offering is a collaboration between the newcomers at Cleann and Cold Hollow Cider, one of Vermont’s most recognizable and highly-regarded craft brands.
Featuring one milligram of THC and fifteen milligrams of CBD per twelve ounce can, the ready-to-drink beverage is lightly carbonated and perfectly balanced with the signature sweetness of freshly-pressed apple cider.
The “microdose mocktails”, or simply, “microtails” combine two popular trends: beverage consumers seeking non-alcoholic beverages and cannabis consumers seeking lower-dose and more functional options.
An added bonus for Cleann is that both ingredients – the hemp-derived cannabis oil and the cider – are naturally gluten-free, opening up even more options for connoisseurs with dietary and allergy considerations.
Initially debuting in small batches at grocery stores such as Commodities and Healthy Living, Cleann has partnered with Farrell Distributing to expand the beverage offering statewide, including four-pack options. Pasteurized and heavily-tested, the beverages remain consistent and fresh for nearly a year, even without refrigeration.
In addition to the growing presence on the shelves, trendy bars like Four Quarters and Mule Bar are already experimenting with Cleann cider as ingredients in non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’, including a Micro Mule and a Micro Apple Spritz.
As consumers increasingly look for both new beverage alternatives and new cannabis options, CLEAN International plans to roll out a new ready-to-drink microtail each quarter of 2026, including strawberry daiquiri and maple cream-inspired creations.
