Vermont Business Magazine Bensonwood, a leader in high-performance offsite construction proudly celebrates a long-standing partnership in Ludlow as Okemo Mountain Resort marks its 70th anniversary this ski season.

Since its founding in 1956, Okemo has grown into one of the Northeast’s most beloved four-season destinations, balancing world-class recreation with thoughtful land management. Bensonwood is honored to support this milestone through its work at SouthFace Village, a slopeside community on the south face of Okemo Mountain that exemplifies high-performance, low-impact mountain development.
Working alongside Banwell Architects, Bensonwood has prefabricated and raised four multi-unit townhomes at SouthFace Village, along with Unity Homes’ first Nano, which serves as the on-site sales office. One additional multifamily townhome is planned, followed by a series of five-bedroom chalets.
The development addresses the challenges of strict land management requirements, high-density planning, limited site access, and complex mountain topography. These conditions are particularly imperative to solve in Vermont, a state known for its pristine views, progressive environmental laws, and stringent building codes.
The SouthFace Village development spans 23,200 square feet across 14 residences, utilizing Bensonwood’s Open-Built high-performance walls. The slopeside community offers ski-in/ski-out access along with shared amenities including an indoor/outdoor pool and fire pit, blending durability and comfort in this mountain living environment.
“These are some of the most demanding environments to build in,” said Travis Streeter, Director of Project Management at Bensonwood. “Our goal at Okemo has been to create mountain architecture that is expressive and timeless, while performing at the highest level in a tough, ever-changing climate.”
In addition to residential construction, Bensonwood also delivered a Nano ticket office at Okemo, demonstrating how small-scale, high-performance buildings can enhance the guest experience while minimizing environmental impact.
