Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Corrections (DOC) today announced the death of Titus Peters, a sentenced person incarcerated at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility (TCCF) in Mississippi.
Titus Peters, 42, of Bennington, Vermont, began his incarcerative sentence in 2017. In 2019, Mr. Peters was transferred to TCCF, a correctional facility operated by CoreCivic. There are 150 men in Vermont DOC custody held at TCCF.
On January 29, Mr. Peters was found unresponsive by correctional staff at approximately 12:03pm. Correctional staff subsequently called medical staff and Emergency Medical Services. First responders arrived at the unit at 12:05pm and initiated life-saving measures. Emergency Medical Services pronounced Mr. Peters deceased upon arrival.
The Department notified the Defender General’s Prisoners’ Rights Office per state law and protocol. The DOC Corrections Investigative Unit will review the fatality according to departmental policy.
In 2020 he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison on three felony offenses: repeated aggravated sexual assault on a child, lewd or lascivious conduct with a child as well as lewd and lascivious conduct, according to the Bennington Banner.
