Vermont Business Magazine Community College of Vermont (CCV) student Lea Henderson has been selected as the recipient of CCV’s 2025 Legacy Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The Legacy Scholarship is given annually in honor of a current or past CCV faculty or staff member whose work has had a profound impact on students and colleagues. This year’s scholarship is given in honor of former Dean of Academic Affairs Deborah Stewart, who retired in June after 31 years at the College.
“As a graduate of CCV herself, Debby understands the transformative power of a CCV education,” said CCV President Joyce Judy. “Her contributions to the College, our students, and our faculty are beyond measure. She truly lives our mission, and her legacy is reflected in students like Lea who are investing in themselves and working to create a brighter future.”
Henderson is a student at CCV’s Upper Valley academic center working toward a degree in behavioral science.
“I was thrilled,” she said of learning she’d received the Legacy Scholarship. “It really alleviated a lot of stress that I’ve had around going back to college just in terms of managing to keep up with work and school balance.” An adult student who works full-time, she says CCV has given her the opportunity to explore many different subjects. “It’s given me a lot more freedom in deciding what I want my ultimate goal to be,” she said. “I’m really excited about psychology. I feel a lot of security in this career path.”

CCV is Vermont’s second-largest college, serving over 10,000 students each year. With 12 locations and extensive online learning options, our students don’t have to travel far from their communities to access our degree and certificate programs, workforce, secondary and continuing education opportunities, and academic and veterans support services.
