Southwestern Vermont Medical Center appoints new CEO

Dr. Estevan Garcia

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, a member of the Dartmouth Health Network, has appointed Dr. Estevan Garcia as its next CEO and president. He will succeed Thomas A. Dee, who will retire in early January.

Garcia, a specialist in pediatric emergency medicine, most recently served as chief health and wellness officer at Dartmouth College. Prior to this, he served as chief medical officer at the Massachusetts Department of Health.

Garcia is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a graduate of Austin College and holds a Master of Public Administration in health care management and policy from New York University, a doctorate in public health from CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and a Doctor of Medicine from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

“Dr. Garcia has decades of experience in health care leadership, spearheading major initiatives and improvements within hospital systems and in a public health capacity,” said Thomas H. Green III, chair of the SVMC Board of Trustees.
