Treasurer confirms distribution of payments for 3SquaresVT/SNAP recipients

Vermont Business Magazine Today, Treasurer Pieciak confirmed that his office successfully sent payments ensuring recipients of 3SquaresVT, Vermont's version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), will receive their benefits today despite the ongoing federal shutdown.

The Department for Children and Families (DCF) also confirms that, as of today, state-funded partial 3SquaresVT benefits for the first 15 days of November have been successfully issued to more than 36,000 eligible households across Vermont.

This accomplishment was made possible through the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of many partners. DCF extends its deepest gratitude to Governor Phil Scott, the Governor’s Office, the Agency of Administration, the Agency of Digital Services, the Office of the State Treasurer, the Department of Financial Regulation, members of the Legislature and Emergency Board, and state staff who worked long hours to ensure Vermonters received the help they were waiting for.

“We are deeply grateful for the commitment and teamwork that brought this complex process to completion,” said Miranda Gray, Economic Services Deputy Commissioner. “And most importantly, Vermonters can buy food today.”

In addition to this state-funded benefit, $250,000 was also appropriated to the Vermont Foodbank to support additional food purchase for food shelves to provide food access for those impacted by the 3SquareVT benefit payment delay.

Approximately 67,000 Vermonters are enrolled in SNAP, and most participants access their benefits via EBT card. Funds were loaded to EBT cards this morning.

However, thousands receive their benefits through ACH payments processed by the Treasurer’s Office. For these individuals, benefits will be credited to their accounts by the end of the day today, though timing will vary depending on the individual financial institution. Recipients who do not receive their benefits today are encouraged to reach out to their bank or credit union.

“This morning, our office worked with the Administration to ensure all 3SquaresVT/SNAP recipients receive their benefit payments today while the federal government is shut down,” said Treasurer Pieciak. “I’m proud our state continues to put people first, and I’m grateful to everyone across state government, the Legislature, and the state’s banking partners who made this possible.”

Earlier today, the Trump Administration asked the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to issue an emergency stay of a U.S. District Court ruling ordering the federal Administration to fully fund SNAP. However, the administration subsequently said it would release full November SNAP benefits as the legal case plays out.

Governor Scott, who with legislative leaders laid out the plan last week to pay 3SquaresVT recipients in Vermont, said today that the Emergency Board would meet again next week to assess the situation. This was before the administration said it would pay the full SNAP benefit for now.

Pieciak continued, “While the Trump Administration is fighting to keep money out of working people’s hands, Vermont is working hard to ensure our neighbors can put food on the table.”
