Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of October 13, 2025. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates:
Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Crews will continue installing drainage infrastructure from Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Early next week, Lower Mountain View Drive will have lane shifts followed by lane shifts on U.S. 2/7 between Hercules Drive and Champlain Drive starting midweek. Next week, the width of the I-89 Exit 16 southbound on-ramp will be reduced, with traffic maintained. Starting Thursday, blasting activities will require 10-minute stoppages on U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, and rolling roadblocks along I-89 between Exits 14 and 17 during daylight hours. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – At night, crews will pave on I-89 northbound near Exit 17, Exit 17 northbound off-ramp, U.S. 2, and U.S. 7. During the day, crews will continue installing traffic signal wiring and signage on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7. From Sunday at 7 p.m. through Friday at 6 a.m., the I-89 Exit 17 northbound off-ramp will be closed nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., with northbound traffic detoured via Exit 18 in Milton. Additionally, I-89 northbound will periodically have lane reductions, and U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 as well as U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road will periodically have single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. From Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., U.S. 7 near the Chimney Corner intersection will have shoulder closures, with two-way traffic maintained.
Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – A bridge deck replacement project is nearing completion over Lake Morey Road. I-91 at Exit 15 is reduced to a single lane of travel in either direction with a speed limit reduction to 55 mph. Motorists should watch for changing traffic patterns through the work zone midweek as the contractor removes traffic control devices and restores both lanes of travel in both directions.
Fairlee, I-91 Southbound Ledge Stabilization – I-91 South at Exit 16 is open to one lane of travel within the project area. A work zone speed reduction to 55 mph is in effect. Fines are increased for speeding within the work zone. Rolling roadblocks in the northbound lanes are possible, however not anticipated.
Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Crews continue daytime shoulder and guardrail work. Tuesday through Friday, motorists should expect delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits, and fines will be doubled.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are reduced to 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. Traffic on VT 107 will be diverted, with a reduced speed of 30 mph speed limit and a 14-foot height restriction.
Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving – Crews will leave the project at noon on Friday. They will return Tuesday at 7 a.m. to continue finish work on the I-89 paving project between Exit 20 and the Canadian border. Temporary speed limit reductions to 55 mph will be in place across multiple daily single lane work zones.
State Highways:
Barre Town–Orange–Topsham, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – Next week, crews will continue side road line striping, bridge joint installation, and roadside cleanup. Motorists should expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic and minimal delays. No work will occur on Monday due to the holiday.
Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures on Main Street as utility crews work within the roadway during daytime hours. The contractor also plans to begin drilling micropiles on both sides of the bridge. No work will occur on Monday due to the holiday.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Crews will continue installing curb and concrete for the splitter islands and peanut roundabout on VT 67A at its intersections with Matteson Road and College Drive. From Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 67A along the temporary southern alignment, with intermittent stoppages for construction vehicles. College Drive and Matteson Road are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes until mid-November.
Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is finishing paving and pavement markings on VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street). Between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Tuesday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through multiple work zones. Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours throughout the Brattleboro downtown area. Pedestrians should be vigilant for sidewalk detours. Motorists should watch for wet paint.
Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A night paving project continues on U.S. 5 (Putney Road) from the intersection with Vermont Avenue north to the intersection with Noah’s Lane. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday night through Saturday morning, flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns.
Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – Crews plan to clean drainage pipes and structures on VT 15 in Johnson and Cambridge, and conduct sidewalk repairs on VT 15 near Pearl Street in the Village of Johnson. From Tuesday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., flaggers may be onsite to control alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between VT 100C in Johnson and the VT 15/VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge. Crews will be off the roadway from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on VT 15 in the Village of Johnson.
Enosburg Falls, VT 105 Sidewalk Project – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews may be on-site a few days during the week, with intermittent reductions in VT 105 to one lane with flaggers for sidewalk work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 Resurfacing Project – Work between the Hinesburg/St. George line and Tilley Drive, S. Burlington continues with traffic control present Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work areas. Motorists should expect delays.
Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – There will be no work on this project from noon Friday until Tuesday morning. A Class 1 paving project is finishing up on VT 103 and VT 100S. Single-lane closures will be in place as needed with flaggers controlling one-way alternating traffic patterns through the work zones.
Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, motorists can expect traffic control Tuesday through Friday to allow for construction vehicles in and out of the work area along with lane shifts on U.S. 7. Tuesday through Thursday Arch Street access from U.S. Route 7 will be closed. Motorists will use Pleasant Street to access U.S. Route 7. Closure and detour signs will be present.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will finish assembling the 360-foot-long temporary bridge adjacent to Depot Street. Flaggers will be present on VT 100 throughout the week.
Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Stream work and excavation of the temporary roadway will continue next week, with deck grinding scheduled for Tuesday, October 14. Flaggers will assist with material hauling and grinding operations, resulting in alternating one-way traffic with minimal delays. Both lanes will reopen at the end of each day. No traffic impacts or hauling will take place on Monday’s holiday.
Washington, VT 110 Bridge #15 Replacement Project – Crews will be out of the project area on Monday 10/13 and will resume activities on Tuesday 10/14 at 6:00 a.m. to finish up paving and start clean-up work, weather permitting. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on VT 110 in the town of Washington as alternating one-way traffic patterns controlled by flaggers is expected. Motorists are advised to use extra caution as the bridge is only partially paved and vehicles might be traveling on a gravel surface.
Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement – Bridge work will continue as crews install the sidewalks and stamped concrete truck aprons. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on Stowe Street and Lincoln Street and shoulder closures on VT 100 northbound between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should anticipate delays along VT 100 in Waterbury and at the intersection of Stowe Street. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will conduct roadway widening and curb installation on Mountain View Road between VT 2A and just west of Marions Way, curb installation on the east side of VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and Mountain View Road, and curb and sidewalk installation on Industrial Avenue near Gail Terrace. Mountain View Road is restricted to eastbound traffic only between VT 2A and just west of Marions Way 24/7 until Friday, October 17. Westbound traffic is being detoured from Mountain View Road to North Williston Road, U.S. 2, and VT 2A. Tuesday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., there is potential for lane reductions and shifts on VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and Mountain View Road. Motorists should expect daytime delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Wolcott, School Street/Town Highway 3 Bridge Replacement – Bridge work continues as crews install the concrete barrier along VT 15, install approach signage, and conduct tree work. Motorists may experience intermittent alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 near School Street/Town Highway 3. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone during working hours.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work continues as crews begin backfilling the roadway approaches and place concrete for the approach slabs. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work continues as crews install the animal fence, signage, and delineators on the new culvert. Motorists expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 over the new box culvert over Hardwood Brook. Flaggers may be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours. During non-working hours, the roadway is open to two lanes of traffic through the work zone.
