SUBJECT: Residential Structure Fire
DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: 9/18/2025 at approximately 1:30 p.m.
INCIDENT NUMBER: 25MV011394
TYPE OF EVENT(S): Residential Structure Fire
LOCATION OF EVENT(S): 1840 U.S. Route 2, Marshfield
INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR(S): Inspectors Lindor and Cotnoir, and Sergeant Jacobs
SUMMARY:
On 9/18/2025 at approximately 1:30 p.m., inspectors with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles were responding to a call on U.S. 2 in Marshfield when they noticed heavy smoke in the vicinity. The inspectors responded to the area where the smoke was emanating from and located a residence that was engulfed in flames. Emergency personnel were immediately summoned to the scene by Sergeant Jacobs. Inspectors saw two vehicles parked in the driveway and concluded that the residence was likely occupied. Inspector Cotnoir and Sergeant Jacobs alerted the single occupant of the residence, who had been asleep, and assisted the occupant of the house to safety along with his two dogs and a cat.
Inspectors Lindor and Cotnoir and Sergeant Jacobs then assisted with fire suppression efforts by using water hoses to assist the Plainfield Fire Department upon their arrival of the scene. A second fire was ignited by the primary fire, and inspectors then assisted with efforts to suppress that fire.
ROAD CLOSURE(S): Beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ongoing.
