District to Offer Paid Training and Licensing Support, Additional Part-time and Full-time Work Between Routes
Vermont Business Magazine Bus drivers will now earn $30 an hour or more in Burlington School District (BSD). In addition to the increase in pay, BSD also announced today paid training, licensing support to help people earn their CDL or bus driver endorsements, and options that would allow drivers to work more hours between bus driving shifts.
“For the past year, we have been working hard to identify ways that we can better support our bus drivers and others looking for a way to join the BSD staff,” said BSD Superintendent Tom Flanagan. “I’m thrilled that we have a plan in place that will allow us to pay great wages, pay for training, and offer employees ways to turn a part-time job into a full-time job if they would like.”
Flanagan noted that no experience is required to join the transportation department, and BSD is committed to training and helping employees earn their CDL and/or school bus endorsement.
“By doing this, we are able to reduce barriers to great-paying jobs while increasing our ability to make sure that students get full access to school. This is a win-win for us, and I’m excited about the possibilities for our community.”
