Gerald Coleman, director of custodial services at the University of Vermont, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors at the Greater Burlington YMCA. He will attend his first board meeting Sept. 26.
Coleman was recruited to the board for his extensive experience with many of the same responsibilities the Y leadership faces, including management of a large staff, facilities management and oversight of a complex budget. At UVM, Coleman oversees 225 full-time staff and manages a multimillion-dollar budget.
“I’m grateful that Gerald will be a resource for me in leading this Y,” said Dan Smith, president and CEO at the Greater Burlington YMCA. “With his leadership role at UVM, he’s going to have a lot of empathy for both the day-to-day issues that arise and our strategic direction.”
“I am drawn to this role to support our local community in reaching its full potential for all its citizens," Coleman said. “I hope by working with the board to impact decisions and policies that affect lasting change and leave a positive impact."
