Vermont Business Magazine On Thursday, July 10th, Casella Waste Systems marked the two-year anniversary of the devastating 2023 flood by celebrating the reopening of its Montpelier Hauling Division—and by giving back to the community that supported its recovery. At a heartfelt community event, Casella announced a $10,000 donation to Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity in honor of the essential workers, customers, and nonprofit partners who played a key role in rebuilding efforts.
The event recognized the perseverance of Casella’s employees and the resilience of the Montpelier community. It also paid tribute to the countless individuals and organizations who helped the region rise from the aftermath of disaster—including Habitat for Humanity, whose continued efforts to build affordable housing are critical to long-term recovery.
The event was also attended by local elected representatives, including Governor Phil Scott, who spoke to the importance of community partnerships and praised the collaborative efforts that helped Montpelier recover.
“We rebuilt with help from many,” said a Casella spokesperson. “Now, as we reopen, we’re lending that help forward through Habitat for Humanity, giving more communities the chance to rise.”
Zachariah Watson, Executive Director of Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity, shared: “Casella’s generous donation will help us build safe, affordable homes—especially for families displaced by flooding who have struggled to find permanent affordable housing. It’s a great example of how local businesses support long-term community recovery.”
Casella’s contribution will support new home construction and critical home repairs across Central Vermont, helping to ensure that all Vermonters have a safe and stable place to call home.
