AOT Road Construction Report for the week of July 14  

Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of July 14, 2025.  

Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.    

Interstates:     

Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements  Crews continue work on the new U.S. 2 bridge over I-89 at Exit 17 and traffic signals on U.S. 2. Travel lanes are shifted south on U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 for bridge construction. Single-lane closures on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers may occur Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.    

Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – Replacement of the I-91 South bridge deck over Lake Morey Road continues. A temporary crossover is in effect. Beginning approximately a quarter mile in advance of the Exit 15 interchange, traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions and being diverted onto I-91 North. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in effect.   

Fairlee, I-91 Southbound Ledge Stabilization – Preparatory activities are underway within the project area. Traffic is reduced to a single lane between Exits 16 and 15. Rolling roadblocks on the northbound lanes beginning at Exit 14 will be in effect on Thursday 7/17 from 1-4 p.m. A speed reduction is in place.    

Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – In preparation for new pavement, crews will be removing existing surface pavement and paving two separate courses of pavement. Motorists should expect major delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. Motorists should also expect uneven lanes and a milled surface in the travel lane. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits and fines will be doubled.   

Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit on VT 107 is reduced to 30 mph with a 14-foot height restriction.   

Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving and Stormwater Improvement Projects – Paving and stormwater improvement projects continue on I-89 where a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place across multiple work zones during working hours. Daily lane closures will be in place on I-89 North and South from Exit 20 to the Canadian border. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.   

State Highways:   

Barre Town-Orange, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – From Barre to Orange, guardrail and sign installation will continue, along with ongoing ditching throughout the project area. In East Barre, curb installation will begin Monday around the cobblestone island. Motorists should expect single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic, minor delays, and changing traffic patterns at the roundabout.   

Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Sign installation, erosion control, and exploratory digging to locate underground utilities will take place throughout the week of July 14. Daytime lane closures are expected.  

Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction  Crews continue constructing a temporary southern alignment of VT 67A at Silk Road/Matteson Road to prepare for roundabout construction. From Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will occur on VT 67A at the Silk Road/Matteson Road and College Drive intersections.  

Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is beginning on U.S. 5 from the I-91 Exit 1 interchange to the signalized intersection with VT 142. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.  

Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – Crews will install plug joints on multiple bridges and pave aprons along side streets and driveways. From Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., multiple traffic control packages will facilitate alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Park Street in Johnson and the VT 15/VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge.    

Chelsea-Washington, VT 110 Resurfacing Project – Paving work in Chelsea Village is expected to be completed by the middle of next week, weather permitting. The installation of aggregate shoulders and traffic markings is also expected to be done by next week. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts in Washington and Chelsea.    

Elmore, VT 12 Bridge Replacement Project – Work will continue as crews add materials to the temporary roadway. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 at Camp Road. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.     

Enosburg Falls, VT 105 Sidewalk and Crosswalk Installation – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews are only expected on-site a few days during the week. VT 105 could be reduced to one lane intermittently with flaggers for cleanup work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.   

Essex-Fairfax, VT 128 Paving – Paving operations will continue between Essex and Fairfax. Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic from Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.  

Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews will finish work on the south side of the bridge next week. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal will switch to the eastbound lane. The upstream sidewalk will also close, and pedestrians must cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.     

Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 Resurfacing Project – Work between U.S. 2 and the Kennedy Drive intersection continues. Traffic control will be present with one lane of alternating travel Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. within this work area.  

Jericho, Browns Trace Road Town Bridge Replacement – Browns Trace Road remains closed until 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, as work continues on the bridge replacement. Pile driving will continue through the week, with formwork, rebar installation, and precast retaining wall construction starting next week. Motorists should follow posted detour signs for alternate routes.    

Jericho, VT 15 Sidewalk Project – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. crews will be on-site to install signs and lay out the limits of construction. Motorists should expect minor delays at the beginning of the week. Later in the week, crews will begin digging for sidewalk preparation, and VT 15 will be reduced to one lane with flaggers between the intersections of VT 15 and Jericho Market Drive, and VT 15 and Park Street.   

Lowell, VT 100 Culvert Replacement – From Friday at 6 p.m. until Monday at noon, VT 100 between VT 58 and Lower Village Road will be closed to all traffic with a signed detour using Lower Village Road and Hazen Notch Road. After noon on Monday, motorists can expect to travel on a gravel surface. Traffic control will be present for daytime lane closures allowing for one lane of alternating travel.   

Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – Daily lane closures will be in place on VT 100 and VT 103 for sidewalk work associated with the Class 1 paving project. One-way alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers are in effect. Sidewalk detours will be in place as needed. Pedestrians should watch for signed detour routes on VT 103 and project fencing leading around closed areas on VT 100S.   

Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project, motorists can expect a lane closure on U.S. 7 to allow for truck traffic in and out of the work area.   

Plymouth, VT 100A Bridge Replacement – The bridge over Pinney Hollow Brook, about 3.7 miles north of VT 100, is closed until August 18. Deck removal is complete, abutment work is underway, and drilled micropile installation is scheduled for next week. A signed detour routes traffic via VT 100 and U.S. 4 through West Bridgewater. VT 100A remains open to the site, but the road is not passable end to end.   

Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – Construction of the temporary bridge piers continues. VT 100 will be open to two lanes of traffic with a lane shift in place. The gazebo parking lot has reopened.    

Rutland, Railroad Crossing – Upgrading the railroad crossing signal system at West and Forest Street and installing new sidewalk will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers from Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  

Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Work continues at the Searsburg VT 9 culvert site, with crews tying deck rebar and backfilling around the abutments. Deck forming is also underway in preparation for a concrete pour. Traffic remains open on the bypass road in both directions, with no changes outside the closure period. Flaggers will be present on the day of the deck pour to manage increased truck traffic. A reduced speed limit remains in effect through the work zone.   

Sheldon-Enosburg, VT 105 Paving – Contractors will continue to install permanent pavement markings on VT 105 between Sheldon and Enosburg. Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zones. Motorists should exercise caution due to the low shoulders.     

Springfield, VT 11 Culvert Replacement – The 40-day closure of VT 11 is active while crews replace the culvert located a quarter mile west of the intersection with VT 106. Motorists accessing Fairground Road near the construction site should watch for trucks entering and exiting the area. Pedestrians should stay on designated pathways through the work zone and be vigilant as these will change over time. A local, signed detour is available on Park Street. Trucks will need to follow the detour signs on VT 106, VT 10, and VT 103 around the work zone.  

Thetford-Fairlee, U.S. 5 Paving – Construction activities continue related to paving on U.S. 5. Grooved pavement and alternating one-way traffic control will be in place within active work zones, with flaggers assisting. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect delays, especially during peak travel times. No weekend work is planned at this time.   

Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement Project – Bridge work will continue as crews excavate the bedrock behind the cofferdams and prepare for the concrete subfooting pour. The bridge on Stowe Street over Thatcher Brook will remain closed to all traffic for 60 days. The signed detour will direct traffic along VT 100, U.S. 2, and Stowe Street. Motorists are asked to stay alert and not follow trucks while traveling through the work zone.  

Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Roadway widening and drainage work will continue on VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and Industrial Ave, with lane reductions and shifts Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and possible alternating one-way traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Milling and paving on Industrial Ave between Gail Terrace and VT 2A will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Milled and gravel surfaces are present on Industrial Ave and VT 2A. Motorists should expect significant daytime delays and plan extra travel time.  

Woodstock, Town Bridge Deck Replacement – As part of the concrete deck replacement and minor roadway approach work on the bridge over Gulf Stream just north of the junction with VT 12, crews will continue work on formwork for the bridge deck and backwalls. The road remains closed, with detour signs in place along Stimets Road. Motorists should use caution, as the detour route is unpaved.    

Worcester, VT 12 Culvert Replacement Project – Culvert work will continue as crews work on the stream diversion and begin removing the existing culvert. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over Hardwood Brook. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.    

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge Replacement Project – Culvert work will continue as crews excavate one abutment and place concrete for the other abutment and wingwalls. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area
