Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of June 30, 2025. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
NOTE: Most construction projects will pause work for the Fourth of July holiday weekend and resume on Monday 7/7.
Interstates:
I-89 Colchester – Improvements are underway at the Exit 17 interchange. Monday through Wednesday, U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road will have single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 will have lane shifts to the south. Crews will be off-site by 12 p.m. on Thursday for Independence Day weekend.
I-89 Montpelier-Waterbury – Beginning Monday at 6 a.m. until further notice, motorists should expect major delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits and fines will be doubled.
I-89 Royalton – Construction continues Monday through Thursday on the I-89 bridges near Exit 3. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit on VT 107 is reduced to 30 mph with a 14' height restriction.
I-89 Swanton-Highgate – Paving and stormwater improvement projects continue on I-89 where a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place across multiple work zones during working hours. Daily lane closures will be in place on I-89 North from Exit 21 to the Canadian border and on I-89 South from Exit 20 to Exit 22. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.
I-91 Fairlee – A ledge stabilization project has resumed along the southbound lanes of I-91 between Exits 16 and 15. Traffic is reduced to a single lane within the project area. A speed reduction is in place.
State Highways:
Barre Town-Orange-Topsham – On U.S. 302 from Barre into Orange, motorists should expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Minor delays are anticipated.
Bennington – A roundabout project will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on VT 67A west of Silk Road and east of College Drive, Monday through Wednesday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. Crews will be off-site by 12 p.m. on Thursday for Independence Day weekend.
Bennington – On VT 9 in Bennington construction activities related to the replacement of Bridge No. 6 over the Walloomsac River continue. Motorists should expect brief daytime lane closures and potential nighttime lane closures.
Cambridge-Johnson – From Monday through Wednesday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Thursday, between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., flaggers will guide alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Sweetser Road in Johnson and the VT 15/ VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge.
Chelsea-Washington – From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., crews will complete the remaining pavement markings from Chelsea Village North to Washington Village. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on VT 110 in the towns of Washington and Chelsea. No work scheduled for Thursday 7/3 and Friday 7/4.
Enosburg Falls – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews are expected on site a few days during the week. VT 105 will be reduced to one lane intermittently with flaggers for line striping of crosswalks near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.
Fairfax – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 128 Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Fairfax to Essex. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.
Hinesburg-South Burlington – The VT 116 resurfacing project continues. Traffic control will be present with one lane of alternating travel Sunday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Jericho – Construction 3.3 miles north of the U.S. 2 junction with Browns Trace will result in traffic delays. Motorists should use caution due to the grooved surfaces. Expect one-lane alternating traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Lowell – On VT 100 between VT-58 and Lower Village Road, motorists can expect traffic control for daytime lane closures allowing for one lane of alternating travel for a culvert replacement project.
Ludlow – Daily lane closures are scheduled for VT 100 and VT 103. Flaggers are anticipated to be controlling one-way alternating traffic patterns and to be staffed in intersections throughout the project limits. Expect delays. Sidewalk detours will be in place as needed. Pedestrians should watch for signed detour routes on VT 103 and project fencing leading around closed areas on VT 100S.
Marshfield-Danville – From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor delays and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 in West Danville near Joe’s Pond. Flaggers and Uniformed Traffic Officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Pittsford – For the bridge replacement project, motorists on U.S. 7 can expect little to no traffic impact. Flaggers may be present to allow for truck traffic in and out of the work area.
Plymouth – The southbound lane of Vermont Route 100A is closed, while the northbound lane remains open and is controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect delays. Full road closure at the bridge site will occur on August 18.
Quechee Gorge Bridge – The eastbound lane closure and one-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal will continue until mid-season when the closure switches sides to the westbound lane. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Readsboro – VT 100 over Deerfield River will be open to two lanes of traffic throughout the week. The gazebo parking area has reopened.
Rutland – A railroad crossing project will require West Street to remain closed at the railroad crossing near Forest Street, with traffic maintained via detour routes through Monday at 8 p.m. Local traffic on West Street will be detoured via Meadow Street, School Street, Forest Street, and Pine Street. Through traffic (including trucks) on West Street will be detoured via Columbian Avenue, State Street, and Merchants Row. On Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and on Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., there may be single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on West Street near Forest Street. Crews will be off-site by 12 p.m. on Thursday for Independence Day weekend.
Searsburg – On VT 9 construction of the bridge located approximately 1.1 miles west of the intersection with VT Route 8 continues. Traffic remains open in both directions on the bypass road, with no anticipated disruptions for motorists.
Sheldon – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 105 Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sheldon to Enosburg. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface and low shoulders.
Springfield – Daily lane closures will be in place on VT 11 about a quarter mile west of the intersection with VT 106 where a culvert replacement project has started. Monday through Thursday, one-way alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be present and motorists should be vigilant for shifting traffic patterns.
Thetford-Fairlee – On U.S. 5 in the Town of Thetford and extending northerly to the Town of Fairlee, motorists should expect single-lane closures between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Flaggers will be present. Drivers should expect minor delays near active work zones. No holiday or weekend work is planned.
Waterbury – The bridge on Stowe Street over Thatcher Brook will remain closed to all traffic for 60 days. The signed detour will direct traffic along VT 100, U.S. 2, and Stowe Street.
Williston – A roadway resurfacing and widening project will require lane reductions and lane shifts on VT 2A between Industrial Avenue/Mountain View Road and Meadowrun Road Monday through Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is potential for alternating one-way traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should expect significant traffic delays on weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes. Crews will be off-site by 12 p.m. on Thursday for Independence Day weekend.
Woodstock – Detour signs will direct traffic to Stimets Road, an unpaved route located about 0.20 miles north of the junction with VT 12, where drivers should use caution. Flaggers will assist with truck traffic near Log Cabin Drive.
Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge on VT 12 over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.
Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the VT 12 bridge over Hardwood Brook. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.
