Vermont Business Magazine Kinney Drugs announced today that the Rite Aid drugstores in Brattleboro and Springfield will become part of the Kinney family the first full week in August. Kinney stated that its goal is to minimize any disruption to patient care and customer service during the transition. Rite Aid announced in May that it was closing all of its stores nationwide, including its last five in Vermont.
Kinney Drugs is an employee-owned healthcare company that’s committed to the health and wellness of our customers, employees, and neighbors who live in the communities we serve. They currently operate nearly 100 drugstores in Vermont and New York State. With the additions of the locations at 49 Canal Street in Brattleboro and 55 Springfield Plaza Road in Springfield, they will have 23 drugstores in the Green Mountain State. Although they are new to Springfield and Brattleboro, they are not new to Vermont. Kinney opened their first drugstore in Saint Albans nearly 70 years ago.
“We’re thrilled to further expand our presence in Vermont and begin providing the Brattleboro and Springfield communities with trusted, local care. We know that both drugstores have been part of the fabric of their neighborhoods for many years. The pharmacists and staff are well-known and well-regarded, and we were pleased to offer them continued employment with Kinney,” said John Marraffa, R.Ph., President of Kinney Drugs and Kinney Homecare, and a career pharmacist. “We also look forward to getting to know our new neighbors and welcoming new team members.”
Kinney is committed to fulfilling the needs of all of the people who rely on their services. Kinney pharmacies are among the first to carry critical medications and vaccines, ensuring timely access to vital healthcare. Our stores are fully stocked with household, pet care, beauty, general seasonal, gift and convenience items that customers want to see. Kinney Drugs continues to be a dependable partner in health and wellness, while also offering the products customers want most—all under one roof.
“Whether it’s picking up needed medications and other health products, seasonal items, developing photos to recognize a milestone, or helping you stock your pantry and refrigerator, we have what you’re looking for,” Marraffa says. “We have a deeply rooted presence in the communities we serve and feel that our values closely align with those of our local neighbors. We hope to exceed your expectations in every way, every day.”
The Associated Press reported in May that Rite Aid still had 1,240 stores across the U.S., a significant drop from its peak of more than 4,500 locations in the early 2000s.
