Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of June 8, 2025. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates:
I-89 Colchester – Improvements are underway at the Exit 17 interchange. The I-89 Exit 17 northbound off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed at night Sunday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and traffic will be detoured via Exit 18 in Milton. From Sunday at 7 p.m. to Friday at 7 p.m., I-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near Exit 17, except during peak hours (3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for I-89 northbound and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. for I-89 southbound). U.S. 2 between its intersection with U.S. 7 and the U.S. 2 eastern bridge approach will have lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Monday through Friday, U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road will have lane shifts and possible lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorcyclists should expect uneven gravel surfaces on the northbound ramps during the day. Travel lanes on U.S. 2 are shifted south between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7.
I-89 Montpelier-Waterbury – Motorists should expect major delays during peak travel hours due to southbound lane closures between mile markers 64.2 and 52.6 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
I-89 Royalton – Construction continues Monday through Friday on the I-89 bridges near Exit 3. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit on VT 107 has been reduced to 30 mph and has a 14’ height restriction under the bridges.
I-89 Swanton-Highgate – Paving and stormwater improvement projects continue on I-89 where a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place across multiple work zones during working hours. Daily lane closures will be in place on I-89 North from Exit 20 to Exit 22 and on I-89 South from Exit 21 to Exit 22. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.
I-91 Fairlee – A crossover remains in place at Exit 15 on I-91 South. Beginning approximately a quarter mile before the work zone, traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions and diverted onto I-91 North around a bridge deck replacement project. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in place.
State Highways:
Barre – Expect single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic throughout the week due to ongoing ditching, guardrail, and sign installation work. Expect minor delays.
Bennington – Utility work will continue near the Route 9 and Beech Street intersection adjacent to the bridge. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, as work is confined to the roadway shoulders.
Bennington – A roundabout project will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on VT 67A at its intersections with Silk Road/Matteson Road and College Drive from Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Brattleboro-Hinsdale – Expect intermittent lane shifts and one-way alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers on VT 142 and VT/NH 119 while crews work on completing the new bridge project over the Connecticut River. Motorists should watch for wet paint and be vigilant for multiple work zones and shifting traffic patterns.
Cambridge Johnson – Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., flaggers will guide alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Hubbard Drive and the VT 15/ VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge.
Chelsea-Washington – From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., paving work will continue. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts and minimal delays on VT 110 with alternating one-way traffic patterns in place for paving operations.
Enosburg Falls – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., VT 105 will be reduced to one lane intermittently with flaggers for paving and clean-up work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.
Fairfax – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 128 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Fairfax to Essex. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.
Grafton – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., flaggers will guide alternating one-way traffic on VT 121 near Fisher Hill Road.
Hartford – Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on either side of Old Bridge #7 on Maple Street/VT 14 and Mill Road and the VA Cutoff Road.
Hinesburg-South Burlington – The VT 116 resurfacing project continues. Traffic control will be present with one lane of alternating travel Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m
Ludlow – Daily lane closures are scheduled for VT 100 and VT 103. Flaggers will control one-way alternating traffic patterns and will be present at intersections throughout the project limits. Expect delays.
Marshfield-Danville – From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor delays and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 from the intersection with VT 15 in West Danville west to the Marshfield town line. Flaggers and Uniformed Traffic Officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Orange – Expect single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic throughout the week due to ongoing ditching, guardrail, and sign installation work. Expect minor delays.
Pittsford – U.S. 7 will have traffic control present on 6/9 to allow for one lane of alternating travel in preparation to move motorists over the new bridge. Oxbow Road remains closed to through traffic until 6/9. VT 3 is closed at the U.S. 7 intersection until 6/15. Truck traffic should use U.S. 4 to U.S. 7.
Plymouth – A long-term southbound lane closure is in place on VT 100A near Bridge 9, with traffic managed by a temporary signal and occasional flaggers. This traffic pattern will continue until July 7, when the bridge is scheduled for full closure, significantly impacting travel in the area.
Quechee Gorge Bridge – The eastbound lane closure and one-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal will continue until mid-season when the closure switches sides to the westbound lane. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Readsboro – VT 100 over Deerfield River will have one lane of traffic controlled by flaggers, with a 24-hour lane shift at Phelps Lane. The parking area adjacent to the gazebo is closed for material storage.
Richmond – Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., U.S. 2 will have traffic control present allowing for alternate one-way traffic with minimal traffic interruptions.
Rutland – A resurfacing project will require single-lane closures or alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on U.S. 7 between Cold River Road and Lincoln Ave, U.S. BUS 4 between Ripley Road and U.S. 7, and U.S. 4 between U.S. 7 and Gleason Road from Sunday through Wednesday, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., and from Thursday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Searsburg – A single-lane closure with alternating traffic continues, with a reduced speed limit of 30 mph and periodic traffic enforcement. Expect delays in the work zone.
Sheldon – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 105 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sheldon to Enosburg. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.
Springfield – Intermittent shoulder and lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be present on VT 11 at the intersection of Fairground Road. Motorists should watch for shifting traffic patterns in this location.
Wallingford – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 103 at the railroad bridge over VT 103 while bridge work is being done. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Waterbury – Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on Lincoln Street. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. The Waterbury Park & Ride has been temporarily relocated to the Stanely/Wasson Lot in the State Office Complex.
Williston – A roadway resurfacing and widening project will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic on Industrial Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the closure of the VT 2A southbound right-turn-only lane at Industrial Ave from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect significant traffic delays on weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Woodstock – Starting on June 12, expect single-lane closures on VT 100A for erosion control work and preparations ahead of the full bridge closure.
Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic over the temporary bridge on VT 12 over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.
Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic over Bridge #87 on VT 12 over Hardwood Brook. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.
