Vermont Language Justice Project launches free multilingual app to help refugees and im/migrants get information needed to build their lives in the US

VermontBiz The Vermont Language Justice Project (VLJP) creates and disseminates public service videos in 21 languages to help people with language access needs make informed decisions and navigate daily life in Vermont and throughout the United States.

VLJP is thrilled to announce that we have launched a multilingual app: iFY (Information for You), available for free for iPhone/iOS (https://tinyurl.com/iFYiphone) and Android (https://tinyurl.com/iFYandroid). iFY allows refugees, im/migrants, and people who speak languages other than English to easily access public service videos in their languages.

iFY content has been vetted by health, legal, and safety experts and the Vermont Language Justice Project, and is translated by highly-qualified professionals. iFY does not collect personal data or location information.

Users can watch videos to learn about everything from driving safely in winter, to cancer screenings, to opening a bank account, to taking care of your dental health, to calling 911, to car seat safety, to understanding diabetes and the importance of vaccinations. Users select a language to enter a platform with content exclusively in that language. iFY’s user-friendly design and use of symbols and icons make it accessible to people of all literacy levels and those with limited technical skills. VLJP hopes that iFY will markedly increase the ability of refugees and im/migrants living in Vermont and throughout the US to autonomously access the information that they need in order to build their lives here.

iFY is available in ASL, English, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, French, Haitian Kreyol, Kirundi, Mandarin, Maay Maay, Mandarin Chinese, Nepali, Pashto, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrinya, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. The ease of toggling back and forth between languages also makes iFY a useful tool for service providers working with im/migrants and refugees.

VLJP is grateful to Burlington REIB for their financial support for this initiative and all the other philanthropic donors who have allowed us to bring this app into the world!
