Kara Alnasrawi, director of business and workforce development and the Church Street Marketplace for the city of Burlington, has been named director of the city's Community and Economic Development Office, effective July 1. The appointment is subject to approval by the City Council.

In her time with the city, Alnasrawi has launched several innovative projects, including the 0% revolving loan fund, which is credited with creating or retaining over 100 jobs. She also led Burlington’s post-pandemic economic recovery plan.

Alnasrawi is a graduate of the University of Vermont and holds a master's degree in political economics from The New School in New York City. She recently earned an executive certificate in economic development from the Harvard Kennedy School.

“I am very proud to appoint Kara Alnasrawi as the next director of the Community and Economic Development Office,” Mulvaney-Stanak said. “I have great confidence in her ability to offer strong leadership for the reimagined CEDO, bring staff together to advance the department’s essential mission, and return the department to its stature as an engine for innovative community and economic development initiatives.”
