Burlington New North End Housing Forum, May 14

Join AARP Vermont and the City of Burlington for the New North End Virtual Housing Forum coming up this Wednesday, May 14th, from 10-11:30am.

Vermont Business Magazine Co-hosted by AARP Vermont and the City of Burlington, the Housing Forum will explore how New North End (NNE) residents can remain in their community that they love, in safer homes that will support them in their later years.

Learn about innovative renovation options as well as opportunities to create smaller, more affordable age-friendly dwellings and other living options that support aging in place. Panelists will be:

  • Richard Duncan, Executive Director, RL Mace Universal Design Institute: RL Mace Universal Design Institute is the nation's leading authority on universally designed homes (UD). Learn how UD and age-friendly features can help you age in place in homes that appeal to all ages.
  • Connor Timmons, Executive Director, HomeShare Vermont: HomeShare has developed a comprehensive and client-driven screening and matching process over the past 40+ years to make the best matches possible. Their screening process focuses on safety and security. Each match is unique and based upon the interests, needs, and lifestyles of the individuals involved.
  • Molly Duggan, Director of Policy & Strategic Initiatives, Cathedral Square & SASH: Support and Services at Home (SASH) supports the health and well-being of Medicare recipients and people with disabilities. It is a free, voluntary program developed by Cathedral Square that focuses on investing in wellness and addressing the social determinants of health, including housing.
  • Brian Pine, Director, City of Burlington Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO): CEDO provides housing support to Burlington in a number of ways: through grants and loans for building and maintaining affordable housing, overseeing the inclusion of affordable housing in new construction, and supporting innovative housing initiatives.

Take this opportunity to contribute information about your needs and housing challenges. Voice your opinion about the housing options that you’d like to see and the barriers that make it hard to achieve those objectives!

The event will be co-facilitated by Kelly Stoddard-Poor, Associate State Director at AARP Vermont and Sarah Morgan, Principal Planner from the City of Burlington. Visit AARP’s website to register for this virtual event:
