Vermont Business Magazine Today, Cindi Wight, Director of Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront (BPRW) announced her decision not to seek reappointment for Fiscal Year 2026. Her last day with the City of Burlington will be June 30, 2025.

First appointed in 2017, Director Wight has led the BPRW team through moments of change and opportunity, including the COVID-19 pandemic, when our City parks and natural areas served as a vital reprieve, offering space to safely visit with friends and loved ones.

“I am very proud of the work my team and I have accomplished while I have been privileged to lead the BPRW Team and work in this wonderful community,” said Director Cindi Wight.

During her tenure, Director Wight has stewarded several successful projects including the restoration of Red Stone Cottage at Kieslich Park; the acquisition of 11 acres of land from Elks Lodge #916, now included in the Arms Forest; and updates to the City’s ordinances.

“Over the past 7.5 years, Director Wight has demonstrated her deep commitment to the City of Burlington, our residents, our visitors, and our natural spaces.” said Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak. “I am grateful for Director Wight’s service, and I know that her passion for our Parks will have a lasting positive impact on our community.”

The administration plans to name an interim director in late-May, who would step into the role on July 1. The City then plans to engage in a search process later this summer for the next permanent director of Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront, one of the largest General Fund departments.

In the coming months, Director Wight will finalize the BPRW budget for FY26 and prepare for the transition to an interim director.
