CVMC staff union to hold rally over contract working conditions

Vermont Business Magazine AFT Vermont has announced that this Saturday, Central Vermont Medical Center support staff will hold a rally at City Hall Parkin Barre to put pressure on their administration to agree to a fair union contract that improves patient care, staff retention, and working conditions for the nearly 500 support staff employed by CVMC. This group includes cleaning and kitchen staff, nursing aides, front desk staff, and other groups who earn the lowest wages at the hospital.

CVMC support staff have been in first contract negotiations since November 2024, and during that time have had to navigate what they call the challenges brought on by the administration’s decision to close the Inpatient Psychiatry unit at the hospital in Berlin and a primary care clinic run by CVMC in the Mad River Valley.

Scheduled speakers for the rally include union members from CVMC, other local unions, community organizations, and legislators.
