Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Mutual Insurance Group Giving Fund (VMI) has committed $10,000 to support Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity (CVHFH) to assist with building a single family home in Barre. Beyond their financial support, VMI employees will also volunteer on-site, reinforcing their commitment to community involvement.
VMI’s dedication to volunteerism aligns with a growing trend in the for-profit sector, where companies not only encourage employees to give back but also provide paid volunteer days. This shared commitment to the community makes the partnership between CVHFH and VMI a natural fit. Sarah Young, Vermont Mutual's Vice President of Human Resources, remarked "We have great appreciation for the important work Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity does for our communities." Ms. Young continued "Affordable housing continues to be a growing challenge for many working families in Vermont and for some, completely out of reach without the help from CVHFH. Vermont Mutual is proud to support their efforts.
CVHFH homes are sold to low-income families with a 0% interest or equivalent mortgage. Homeowners must demonstrate the ability to repay the mortgage and contribute sweat equity by helping build their own home.
"The dream of homeownership is slipping away for working Americans. That’s why our work—and partnerships like this one with Community National Bank—matter now more than ever."– Zachariah Watson, Executive Director of CVHFH
The Barre home will provide stable housing for a fourth grade teacher. As is so often the case in our area, the teacher has been priced out of the housing market she teaches in. With this in mind, CVHFH hopes to both help support a community member as well as the local school system by keeping a teacher in the area.
CVHFH welcomes volunteers of all skill levels to join in all phases of construction—no experience necessary. Safety training, materials, and tools are provided. Volunteering is a great way to learn valuable trade skills for a career or personal projects. To get involved as an individual, business, group, or organization on our construction sites, contact Edward Johnson at [email protected].
