Peter Vantine, professor of classical and modern languages and literatures at Saint Michael's College, will be honored by the French government for his commitment to promoting French language, culture and education in Vermont and the United States.
Mustafa Soykurt, consul general of France in Boston, will bestow the Ordre des Palmes Académiques upon Vantine during a ceremony on campus on March 12. The honor is an order of knighthood in France and is one of the oldest civil honors bestowed by the French Republic.
“Peter exemplifies the type of professors we are fortunate to have here at Saint Michael's — those who are committed to global learning and literacy as an avenue to deeper cultural competency and understanding,” said Saint Michael’s College President Richard Plumb. “We are so thrilled he is being recognized for his dedication to that key part of our college's mission.”
Vantine has taught classes on the French language, literature and culture at Saint Michael’s since 2011. He currently serves as regional representative for New England to the American Association of Teachers of French, the national professional association for French teachers at all levels in the U.S.
