Rutland Medical honors outstanding physicians, practice providers

Rutland Regional Medical Center has honored Drs. Steven Runyan and Douglas Dier, nurse midwife Sarah Barton and physician assistant Jordan Carr with its 2024 Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers of the Year Awards. Runyan and Barton represented Rutland Regional Medical Center, and Dier and Carr represented the Rutland area community.

Runyan, who serves as medical director and section chief of psychiatry, was named RRMC Physician of the Year for his empathy, competence and advocacy for strong, trusting relationships between healthcare providers and patients. He is a graduate of Juniata College and holds a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dier, a rheumatology specialist practicing in Rugland, was named Community Physician of the Year for his long-standing dedication to his patients and his willingness to go above and beyond in providing exceptional care. He holds a medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Barton, a certified nurse midwife at Rutland Women’s Healthcare, was named RRMC Advanced Practice Provider of the Year for her professionalism, clinical expertise and dedication to mentorship. She is a graduate of the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Massachusetts and holds a master’s degree in midwifery and a doctorate in nursing practice from Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky.

Carr, physician assistant at Community Health Castleton, was named Community Advanced Practice Provider of the Year for his patient-centered approach and ability to build trust with both patients and colleagues. He is a graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts and is board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
