Trapp Family Lodge 75th anniversary and re-brand

Trapp Family Lodge Reintroduces Itself as the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort

Vermont Business Magazine In a momentous announcement kicking off its 75th anniversary, the iconic Trapp Family Lodge proudly unveils its new name and brand identity as the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort. This thoughtful refresh reflects a harmonious blend of honoring the family’s rich legacy while embracing an exciting future of growth.

Originally famous as the Trapp Family Singers, the family’s hotel name was derived from their popular musical touring name, which is why the ‘von’ was not present. With a renewed focus on the family legacy, the von has been adapted back into the name. And, since the lodge itself has transformed so much over the years into being a true resort destination, “Lodge & Resort” feels more appropriate for the experience that we provide to our guests.

In the resort’s new logo, the iconic belltower serves as the new symbol of the Lodge, promoting the property’s Austrian alpine heritage. Significantly, the bell in the tower was the only item that survived the Lodge’s tragic fire in 1980. The belltower is also the first view that greets guests upon arrival and is a symbol of the resort’s hospitality and gemütlichkeit.

The refresh signifies not only where the resort has come from, but also where it is headed, as the von Trapp family continues to build on the values and traditions that make the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort so special.

“After 75 years, it felt right to refresh and refine our brand, keeping our history front and center while positioning the resort for future generations of guests,” said Kristina von Trapp, Johannes von Trapp’s daughter, who helps run the resort today. “The von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort is so much more than a name. It’s an enduring commitment to hospitality, natural beauty, and the values that have guided our family for decades. My family is proud to continue building on our family legacy that our father has stewarded for so long.”

Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future

Since opening its doors in 1950, the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort has been synonymous with warmth, charm, and an exceptional guest experience – called “gemütlichkeit” – that is rooted in the Austrian tradition.

Nestled in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains in Stowe, the lodge has grown to encompass a full resort experience, including world-class cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, hiking, farm-to-table dining, gardens, a working farm, and an award-winning brewery and forest.

The refresh also introduces a crisp visual identity, including a modernized logo, while keeping the spirit of the von Trapp family story alive. Notably, the logo is changing from a crown to the iconic belltower, which has been a cherished part of the resort since the original lodge was constructed. The belltower, the sole surviving item from the devastating 1980 fire, stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and continuity. Much like the historic belltower, the resort continues to stand as a beacon of renewal and human connection, where the hills are alive with more than music – they’re alive with connection, adventure, and unparalleled hospitality.

The rebrand also includes a new tagline: "Come for Our Story. Leave with Your Own." This phrase encapsulates the resort’s unique blend of history, personal connection, and unforgettable experiences awaiting every guest.

75th Anniversary Celebrations All Year Long

The first event to kick off this momentous milestone is a winter exhibition, Stone and Snow, a breathtaking five-piece outdoor sculpture exhibition by renowned local artist Christopher Curtis. In celebration of the Lodge’s 75th anniversary, Curtis draws inspiration from the Lodge’s storied history and the ever-changing seasonal and elemental forces that have shaped its legacy.

Several Vermont and Austrian brands are partnering with the lodge to celebrate the 75th anniversary, including Vermont Teddy Bear, Vermont Flannel, Höpler Wines, and Gemundner Keramik. In addition to these partnerships, the lodge was inducted into Historic Hotels of America this year. Additional anniversary events will be announced soon.

A Destination for Generations

The von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort remains committed to preserving its family-driven ethos of being stewards of the land for generations to come, while expanding opportunities for guests to create cherished memories. With its stunning landscape, rich history, and innovative vision, the resort is poised to inspire countless visitors for years to come.
