VT IAIP Commissioner’s Night

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Association of Insurance Professionals (VTAIP) and Champlain Valley Association of Insurance Professionals (CVAIP) held their annual Commissioner’s Night and Education Day on November 13, 2024. The event included the 2-hour CE Course, Insuring Your Online Home Business, presented by Sue Quimby, Senior Vice President, MSO, Inc. and the 4-hour IAIP professional development course, Resilience.

The courses were attended by 11 insurance professionals and were free to IAIP members. The event was generously supported by sponsorships from Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, G.W. Savage Corp., Concord Group Insurance, Union Mutual, Co-Operative Insurance Companies, Portland Glass, Gadue’s Dry Cleaning, New England Excess Exchange, MSO, Inc., and the NAIW International Legacy Foundation.

The evening’s keynote speaker, Kevin Gaffney, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation (DFR), spoke on the trends his team is observing in the insurance marketplace and the efforts VT DFR is taking to address challenges ahead. He answered questions from attendees on the difficulties in filling positions in the industry and encouraged collaboration with his team on activities to improve the understanding of the vast array of employment opportunities available in the insurance industry.

The insurance professionals attending also heard from Lori Meagher, IAIP Region 1 Vice President. She shared the upcoming education opportunities and announced the Region 1 Conference will be held in Hasbrook, NJ, April 3-6, 2025. The International Association of Insurance Professionals Annual Convention will take place in Oklahoma City, OK, June 19-22, 2025. All insurance professionals are invited to participate in these informative and exciting conferences. 

IAIP members and guests once again showed their commitment to serving their local communities by raising over $2,000 and a bevy of much needed non-perishable food item donations at the event.  In addition, they donated $300 to support the Legacy Foundation’s educational grant programs.

One member of the insurance industry was recognized as the Vermont IAIP Member of the Year. Stephanie Oakes, Senior Business Analyst, Ogon Consulting, was nominated and selected by peers in the VT insurance industry. Two members received education scholarships at the event. Mindy Bero, Client Advisor, Acrisure New England, received the Pat Murray Education Scholarship and Diane Boutin, Account Manager, Noyle W. Johnson Agency, received the Dayle Smedy Education Scholarship. 

The evening was full of insurance professionals networking and sharing information on their industry. It was rounded out with a great meal provided by Barre Elks, Barre, VT and lots of door prizes!

The International Association of Insurance Professionals was officially organized in 1940 and is an association of insurance professionals dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry. The national organization has over 120 local associations throughout the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and other countries. The association is best known for providing insurance education, skills enhancement, and leadership development to its members.
