Bennington professor inducted into Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences

Miroslava Prazak

Miroslava “Mirka” Prazak, professor of anthropology at Bennington College, has been inducted as a fellow into the Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Prazak, who will retire after the spring semester, specializes in economic development and cultural change in East Africa. Her monograph "Making the Mark: Gender, Identity and Genital Cutting," was published from Ohio University Press in 2016.

“Mirka is widely respected within the college and beyond for her achievements as an intellectual, teacher and adviser,” said Thomas Leddy-Cecere, associate dean of pedagogy and advising at Bennington and a VAAS trustee. “Induction as a VAAS fellow is a fitting recognition following her distinguished nearly 30-year service on the Vermont academic scene.”

Prazak is a graduate of Smith College and holds a Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy from Yale University.
