Vermont Land Trust, a nonprofit environmental organization based in Montpelier, has hired Rachel Mullis as communications director and Hunter Wilson as legal project manager.
Mullis comes to VLT with more than a decade of experience leading communications campaigns and developing strategies and content for sustainability-focused organizations. For the past four years, she has run a content strategy and writing business whose clients included Vermont Land Trust, USAID, EnergyHub, Efficiency Vermont and IndustryDive.
Mullis is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a Master of Fine Arts in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is currently enrolled in the 2024-25 Lower Winooski River cohort of the Vermont Master Naturalist program.
“Rachel brings a wealth of expertise in communications and writing for nonprofit organizations,” said Abby White, VLT’s vice president of engagement. “With her experience and her passion for VLT’s mission, Rachel will help us tell the story of what we do and why it matters, to more people.”
Wilson previously owned and operated HunnaBee Wraps, a small business that specialized in reusable, eco-friendly wraps for food storage. She is a graduate of Alma College in Michigan and holds a Master of Food and Agriculture Law and Policy from Vermont Law and Graduate School, where she graduated with distinction.
Wilson brings to the land trust valuable experience as a former environmental consultant and farmworker. As part of VLT’s legal team, she collaborates with landowners and community groups on the legal aspects of land conservation and stewardship.
“I deeply value VLT’s commitment to the interconnectedness of community and the land,” Wilson said. “This approach recognizes that caring for the land is inherently tied to the well-being of the people who depend on it.”
