Over 100 Child Care Spaces Opening Thanks to Act 76 Public Investment

Vermont Business Magazine On Tuesday afternoon, October 22, parents, local business leaders and elected officials will gather to celebrate the new Little Ones University child care center that opened in Williston in early September. The new program was made possible with the help of new public investment from Act 76, the child care law passed last year. The Williston center is now providing over 100 additional child care spaces to the Chittenden County community. Little Ones University already operates programs in Essex and Colchester.

Act 76 is investing an additional $125 million annually into Vermont’s child care system, and in its first year of implementation programs across the state have expanded capacity, upgraded classrooms, and increased compensation for staff. Since its rollout began last summer, 1,000 new child care spaces have been created statewide, 39 new family child care homes are opening, 259 new jobs have been created in the field, and more Vermont children and their families have become eligible for reduced child care costs.

Local business leaders will join the event to celebrate the impacts that child care progress is having on the workforce. The event will include a tour of the new program space led by program Owner and Director Caryl Jaques, followed by a brief speaking program featuring local parents of children in the program; Michelle Asch, Vice President of TwinCraft Skincare in Essex Junction; and Aly Richards, CEO of Let’s Grow Kids.
