Vermont Business Magazine The EDGE in South Burlington has announced its plan to provide the first dedicated indoor Pickleball facility in Vermont. Pickleball Courts set to open officially Wednesday. The facility will feature four state-of-the-art pickleball courts with a three-color court combination matching colors used at the US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York, and the Indian Wells Tennis Facility in Palm Springs, California. The EDGE Pickleball courts will not be located on tennis courts but in a newly converted space.

What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States. The sport combines elements of tennis and badminton. This sport has grown in popularity because of its affordable equipment, smaller courts and simple rules. Pickleball has become a national phenomenon because it attracts players of all ages, abilities and activity levels.

The sport has developed a passionate following due to its friendly, social, nature and its multi-generational appeal. It is easy for beginners to learn the basic rules in a single session and the sport can develop into a fast –paced, competitive game for more experienced players.

Pickleball at The EDGE will offer a comprehensive program serving the needs and “growing the game” for new, beginner, experienced and competitive players of all ages. Programs will be offered to all ages, all levels in formats of social and competitive leagues with an emphasis on having fun and building your pickleball community.

Meet the Team
Jeanne Hulsen, Pickleball Co-Director
Jeanne has been a passionate Tennis Pro at The EDGE for twenty years. Connected in the community, she has taught ages 4 - 80. In addition, she has coached high school boys and girls varsity tennis, college men’s and women’s tennis, and several USTA League tennis teams. Jeanne’s enthusiasm for tennis includes competing. Her most recent accomplishments have been 2016 40 4.5+ National League Championships - 2nd Place, and 2017 #1 National 55 Doubles Team ranking.

Jeanne’s passion for pickleball started two years ago while having great experiences in VT, CA, AZ and FL. She is excited to Co-Direct a comprehensive Pickleball Program serving the needs and “growing the game” for new, beginner, experienced and competitive players of all ages. Our mission at The EDGE is to promote fun, healthy lifestyles within a community- building environment.

Sasha Fisher, Pickleball Co-Director
Sasha is from Southampton Bermuda, where she started playing tennis and developing her passion for the game. As a junior, she represented the Bermuda Fed Cup team and competed on the ITF junior circuit. Following her tennis goals, she attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton California where she played four years of Division I tennis and received her BA in Sports Management. Tennis brought Sasha to Vermont when she agreed to lead the Summer Tennis programming at Camp Kiniya in Colchester, VT.

She is in her 6th season as the BHS Girls Varsity Tennis Coach and enjoys the community she has built around tennis as well as through her work as an Events Manager at Camp Ta-Kum Ta and most recently at Special Olympics Vermont. In addition to her enthusiasm for pickleball and just about any paddle sport, Sasha is excited to combine her knowledge and event management experience, to provide a premier Pickleball Program that offers a friendly, social, environment full of opportunities for league play, tournaments and special events for all ages.
