Vermont Business Magazine Kevin M Eschelbach, of Barre, has been elected president of the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce. The appointment was announced today by board chair Joseph L Choquette III. Eschelbach is currently a senior district executive in the northeast quadrant of Vermont for the Boys Scouts of America. He will officially join the Chamber on December 9.
“We talked to qualified candidates from throughout the country, but we found the right candidate in our own back yard,” Choquette said. “Kevin’s strengths include leadership, working with volunteers and organizing events. He grew up in Vermont and knows the people and issues well. We think this is the right combination to guide the Central Vermont Chamber into the 2020s.”
“I’m excited for the opportunity to work with the business and professional community in central Vermont,” Eschelbach said. “There’s a lot we can do together. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
As a senior district executive with the Boy Scouts, Eschelbach provided leadership for more than 200 volunteers and approximately 1000 youth in Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle and Lamoille counties. He was responsible for all aspects of district operations, including administration, fundraising, volunteer recruitment and support, youth recruitment and programming. In managing events he was responsible for meeting financial goals, assuring attendance, recruiting and training staff and promotion.
Since 2001 and prior to joining the scouts in 2013, Eschelbach worked in the retail industry with increasing levels of responsibility, including at Shaw’s Supermarkets, Rite Aid and Dollar General stores. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Ashworth College. He and his wife, Amy, live in Barre.
Eschelbach will succeed William D. Moore, who left the Chamber in July for a similar position in Connecticut. He will also directly follow Edward M Larson, who has served as interim president since July.
“We owe tremendous gratitude to Ed for the outstanding job he has done stepping in to lead the Chamber over these last six months,” Choquette added. “Ed is the consummate professional, and we were very fortunate to have someone with his background and skills available. He has done a great job, and I know he is happy to get back to his own business, full-time.
