Co-op’s Rally for Change Program Surpasses Million Dollar Donation Mark

Vermont Business Magazine City Market is excited to share that in September, they surpassed $1 Million in donations through the Rally for Change program since it launched in October, 2014. Rally for Change allows members and customers to “round up” to the nearest dollar when they check-out at City Market. At the end of each month, 50% of those funds get donated to Feeding Chittenden (previously Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf), 40% to an organization that aligns with their Global Ends, and 10% to a local non-profit. 77 individual non-profit partners have benefited from these funds over the past five years helping to support the growth of community gardens, increase access to healthy food, preserve farmland, and so much more.

To help celebrate, The Good Food Truck (a program of Feeding Chittenden) will be onsite on Friday, October 18 at both stores dishing up free samples and sharing information about their programs. Swing by from 11am to 1pm at the South End store (207 Flynn Ave) and from 2pm-4pm at the Downtown store (82 South Winooski Ave).

John Tashiro, City Market’s General Manager, says, “It’s truly incredible what a little change can do. In just five years, you, our members and customers have donated over $1million to area non-profits with over $475,000 of that going directly to Feeding Chittenden to support their various programs. We’re excited to celebrate this milestone and express our gratitude to our community members who have helped to steward the program forward over the past five years.”
