Vermont Business Magazine St Michael’s Defense LLC in St Johnsbury, veteran-owned and operated by Christopher Haggett and Kenny Timson, has acquired 802traders LLC/Sirearms manufacturing owned by Shawn Straffin. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Haggett and Timson started St Michael’s Defense with a retail location at 132 Factory Street in St Johnsbury in late 2015 with a 240-square-foot shop, four firearms and $200 dollars in ammunition. Since then they have more then trippled the shop space, started their own line of AR style sporting rifles, bought out a gun store in Maine and now have aquirrerd 802traders LLC and Sirearms.
The company has remained predominately retail and gunsmithing up until this point with the hopes of growing their manufacturing.
“We were just missing that product oriented and imaginative side that Shawn brings to the table” Timson said.
Straffin’s company Sirearms manufacturing was the first suppressor/silencer manufacturer in the state of Vermont when legislation passed in 2015.
The list of products designed and popularized by Sirearms were instantly recognized by those in the firearms industry, but Straffin said lack of patents, marketing capital and the inability to facilitate larger product runs kept Sirearms on the sidelines from competing with names like Remington and Mossberg as well as many others.
“St Michael’s Defense will be acquiring our entire book of business, all our social assets (over 50,000 followers) as well as all existing product lines,” said Straffin. Straffin will be staying with the company in a consulting, product and business development role into the future.
