Forum to review draft report on the state of the region’s power grid

Expert panel will discuss disruptive technologies and the transition to the grid of the future

Vermont Business Magazine Damir Novosel, the president and founder of Quanta Technology, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at ISO New England’s public forum on the draft 2019 Regional System Plan (RSP) on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at The Westin Copley Place in Boston.

In addition to Novosel’s address and an overview of the draft 2019 RSP report, a panel of industry experts will explore the role of disruptive technologies in transitioning to the power grid of the future, including the challenges and opportunities posed by integrating renewable technologies and reducing carbon emissions. The panel will be moderated by Brook Colangelo, a member of the ISO New England Board of Directors, and include Novosel; Marshall Van Alstyne, professor of information systems at Boston University; Katherine Prewitt, president of transmission for Eversource Energy; and Mark O’Malley, chief scientist, energy systems integration at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

ISO New England Inc, operator of the region’s bulk power system and wholesale electricity markets, develops the 10-year plan through a collaborative process with New England state regulators and policymakers, companies doing business in the wholesale electricity marketplace, consumer organizations, and other stakeholders. The plan identifies the region’s electricity needs and plans for meeting these needs through 2028. Forecasts of consumer demand, the development of resources needed to meet demand and replace retired resources, transmission upgrades needed for reliability, and strategic issues facing the region’s power grid are included in the report. The plan is expected to be issued by November.
