4:10 P.M. UPDATE ON MONTPELIER STATE OFFICE COMPLEX LOCKDOWN
Montpelier, Vt. – A lockdown of the Montpelier State Office Complex has been lifted after law enforcement thoroughly searched and cleared 133 State Street in response to reports of an armed individual entering the building. A nearby building located at 6 Baldwin Street was also searched and cleared. No intruder or firearm were located.
133 State Street and 6 Baldwin Street remain closed while law enforcement conducts a second search out of an abundance of caution.
Governor Scott continues to be updated on the situation, and was briefed by Montpelier Police Chief Tony Facos, who is leading the law enforcement response.
According to the initial statement from Governor Phil Scott's office Friday afternoon, state buildings in Montpelier are currently in lockdown and State Street is partially closed to traffic. No entry into, or exits from, state buildings is permitted until further notice. Police from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are responding to a report of a person with a gun entering the State office building located at 133 State St (Dept of Taxes). Evacuation and shelter-in-place procedures were activated, per state security procedures.
