Vermont Business Magazine On Friday, August 23rd, 2019, at approximately 0650 hours Troopers with VSP Williston were notified of a head-on collision involving two vehicles on I-89 Northbound in the area of Mile Marker 76 in the town of Richmond.
Investigation determined that a 2015 Dodge Ram drifted from the southbound lanes of I-89, into the median, went airborne, and then struck a vehicle travelling north head on. The vehicle that was struck was a 2012 Ford F-350. Both vehicles sustained totaling damage.
The operator of the Dodge Ram was identified as Bruce Devenger (age 48) of Sheffield, VT. He was transported to UVM Medical Center for his injuries, where he was pronounced deceased. The passenger of the Dodge Ram was identified as Michael O'Neil (age 72) of Sheffield, VT. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to UVM Medical Center. The operator and sole occupant of the Ford F-350 was identified as Kendall Roberts (age 55) of Barre, VT. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to UVM Medical Center.
I-89 Northbound was shut down for several hours while the crash scene was investigated. Troopers on scene were assisted by Troopers with the Crash Reconstruction Team, Richmond Police Department, Williston Police Department, Vermont DMV Enforcement, Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department, Richmond Rescue, Williston Fire Department, Bolton Fire Department, Richmond Fire Department, and UVM Rescue.
Alcohol, speed, and inattention are believed to be factors that contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
