Vermont Business Magazine Shaw’s revealed today that South Burlington resident Kristen Andersen has won the $1 million prize in the Albertsons Companies 2019 MONOPOLY Collect & Win Game. Kristen won the prize by shopping at her local Shaw’s store and collecting all eight markers needed to fill up the $1 million cash prize space on the MONOPOLY game board. Shaw's also gave her tickets to a Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway.
“Customers across the United Sates are playing the MONOPOLY Collect & Win Game at Albertsons Division stores and to date over $85 million in prizes have been awarded,” said Michelle Larson, President of Shaw’s Supermarkets. “It was just two years ago when we proudly presented a $1 million MONOPOLY check to a very happy Massachusetts customer.”
Last year the million dollar winner came from Idaho and in 2017 someone from Massachusetts won.
Andersen told a gathering of store associates, executives and local news reporters at the red-carpet reception that she "was shaking" when she saw that she had scored the million dollar piece. She called her husband, postponed work and ran down to the South Burlington Shaw's to confirm that what she thought she'd won, she'd won. Kristen and her husband Tyler have three small children.
“Today was an amazing day in our South Burlington Shaw’s store,” said Justin Brunelle, Shaw’s Vermont District Manager. “It was such a thrill to present one of our loyal Vermont customers with a MONOPOLY million-dollar prize. The entire store team enjoyed celebrating this special day with Kristen and her family.”
The MONOPOLY Shop, Play, Win! promotion runs from February 6, 2019 through May 7, 2019, or when all the game tickets have been distributed. For more information about the promotion, visit www.shopplaywin.com.
In addition to the MONOPOLY prize, Shaw's made a $1,000 donation in Andersen.'s name to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta in South Hero, which provides outdoor experiences to children with cancer and their families.
The grand prize was awarded at a ceremony held at the Shaw’s Supermarket on 570 Shelburne Road in South Burlington.
