Vermont Business Magazine Community Bank NA recently presented Intervale Center with a $1,000 donation to support its capital campaign to invest in the beauty, productivity and accessibility of the Intervale Center. Specifically, this donation will help fund the restoration of the Calkins Farmhouse silo. A team from Building Heritage will insert handcrafted wood and metal rings into the historic silo to stabilize and relocate it.

Intervale Center’s capital campaign has allowed many improvements to the area including updates to parking areas, trails, public spaces and signage. The next step in its capital improvements will focus on restoring parts of the historic Calkins Farmstead, including a new slate roof for the farmhouse, new foundation and doors for the community barn.
“We’re extremely proud to support the Intervale Center’s capital improvement efforts,” Community Bank N.A. College Street Branch Manager Erin Pond said. “The Calkins Farmstead holds so much history and represents more than 200 years of farming. The renovations will help ensure the homestead will be able to serve Intervale Center for years to come.”
Founded in 1988, the Intervale Center manages a 360-acre campus of farmland, trails and open space along the Winooski River in Burlington, VT. Its mission is to strengthen community food systems through enhancement of the viability of farming, promoting the sustainable use and stewardship of agricultural lands, and ensuring community engagement in the food system.
