Internationally recognized dyslexia expert visits Vermont March 15

Vermont Business Magazine The Stern Center for Language and Learning announces that Nancy Mather, Ph.D., will present a half-day workshop on dyslexia and reading Friday, March 15, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier, Vermont. Dr. Mather is an internationally recognized expert on dyslexia, reading, learning, behavior and child development who has published numerous books, peer-reviewed articles and assessment tools for educators and clinicians who work with individuals who experience learning difficulties. A Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona in Tucson, her most recent book on learning disabilities is Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviors (Mather, Goldstein & Eklund, 2015) and her most recent book on dyslexia is Essentials of Dyslexia: Assessment and Intervention (Mather & Wendling, 2012). Mather is the co-author of one of the most widely available diagnostic tools used by psychologists and educators nationally, the Woodcock-Johnson IV. Most recently, Mather helped create an in-depth online professional learning program with Stern Center founder and president Blanche Podhajski, Ph.D., along with Janice Sammons, Ph.D., of Arizona, and fellow Vermonter Marilyn Varricchio, M.Ed., called Mindplay Comprehensive Reading Course for Educators.

Dr. Mather’s talk in Montpelier on March 15, which is underwritten by the Cynthia K. Hoehl Institute for Excellence at the Stern Center, will define dyslexia and discuss the who/what/when/how and why of identifying dyslexia, a condition that affects as many as one in five individuals.
